The article is essentially various tips and techniques for taking nature photographs from your canoe and protecting your camera equipment.

"Consider padding with pieces of foam pipe insulation on a short section of your gunwales, just ahead of the forward thwart. This will give you a quiet place to rest your paddle, while taking photos. No clunk, as would be the case when resting it directly on wood or composite rails. The foam will also prevent the paddle from easily slipping off the gunwales and into the water or bilge. Either is guaranteed to scare off your subject."

Marc will sometimes accept the risk of paddling with very expensive 35mm equipment unprotected. BIG zoom lenses. He's doing so here in one of the boreal forest regions of the Adirondacks in July 2025, but Rascal may be sitting on the Brownie.

That was a good article with some good tips. It wasn't mentioned and it probably goes without saying, but if you want to sneak up on wildlife, ditch the double blade. Using a double bade is like waving a flag to get noticed.
