    Identifying a Great Canadian Canoe

I like restoring old, weird, unknown stuff so I’m happy with it. I want to get it as close to original as I can, minus the reg plate. Doesn’t affect me anyhow, not going to register it

I would love to either have made or find some original decals, but I know that is far fetched. If someone has a jpeg or png of the original logo, I would love to see what it originally looked like!

My guess with this canoe is that it is pre-1972 like Glenn said, as it seems uncommon, with the padded seat. I am going to go ahead on a full restoration, I picked up some gel coat repair and some bronze hardware for the thwarts.

    I peeled that off… nothing

Thank you! I learned that the overall width of this craft is 37 1/8”, and is 15.5’. The maple leaf has indeed blown away, as it is so faded it’s nearly invisible. If I can get reproduction decals, that would be awesome.

Just checked. I do not have that plate on mine. Nowhere to be found

    Identifying a Great Canadian Canoe

Looking at the catalogue, it seems like I have the 15' "Great Canadian." Super sturdy boat, and I hope to build it up into a fly fishing machine.

    Identifying a Great Canadian Canoe

Thank you so much. That book is incredibly helpful, I may buy that. However, my boat does not have that tag. No filled holes, either. Just some odd looking red strips. I might try and peel those off and see if I can uncover it. It does appear it has been painted at one time, maybe it has been...

    Identifying a Great Canadian Canoe

Ah, ok. Thank you. The handle part is rather small, but I will have to take a look underneath. Do you know if it would be under the bow or stern part? Another question, is do you know the width of these boats normally?

    Identifying a Great Canadian Canoe

On this canoe, the front seat has gone missing. Is that a possibility on the location? I will look under the rear seat. There are no closely spaced holes. My guess is it is somewhere on the inside but I am missing it. On the inside, I assume it is on the starboard side but on the inside. What is...

Where on the boat would these be located? I will take clearer photos after work today. Do you know what the width from the widest point on the gunwales should be? I'm planning on replacing thwarts and can't seem to find much information about these boats online. Thanks!

Benson: Looking at the stern of the craft, doesn't look like there is anything there. I figured it would be on one of the sides near the decal, but there seems to be reddish tape over each end. Do I have to scrape all of that tape off to reveal it? Thanks

    Identifying a Great Canadian Canoe

Hello! I picked up a ~15 foot Great Canadian tonight. Overall seems in decent shape. The hull is sound, but it needs a front seat and thwarts. Does anyone know anything about these boats, and is there an ID plate? If anyone could give me some advice about restoration, please let me know! Also...
