My old outdated synthetic sleeping bags ride in the two vehicles (along with other emergency gear) during the winter in case we get stuck in the car overnight. As others have said, consider down. Also, consider a down quilt instead of a mummy bag.
I always carry a Victorinox Farmer (swiss army knife with a saw) because I like to pretend that I'm camping. My everyday cup is a double-wall titanium mug for the same reason. We have a little fire ring and camping spot a few hundred feet from the house that we use now and then.
The quilt is rated to 20F. My hope was that it would keep me warm at 30. Last night I used it wearing only base layers and a knit hat and the quilt kept me warm at 29F. I'm sure I'd have been fine had the temps dropped lower, and definitely sure if I'd have added more layers and a Nalgene with...
It finally got here this morning. It looks to be all that I had hoped! I'll be checking the temp rating over the next few weeks and am optimistic it will perform as expected.
Unfortunately not. :(
Actually, though, it was never intended to be a Christmas present. I was merely taking advantage of a sale. Christmas was just the beginning date for their 4-5 week timeline.
Keeping my fingers crossed for New Years. :)
I hope the quilt gets here by Christmas. (It should if Hammock Gear's timetable is correct.) I'm definitely anxious to try it out. It's good to know that you're happy with yours.
When I bought the Thermodrop it was on sale for $17 (but came to $24 with shipping.) It is admittedly expensive, but...
About a week ago I ordered a Hammock Gear Econ Burrow 20 down quilt with 2 extra ounces of overfill. All told, it should weigh 28 ounces. There is a 4-5 week wait time so maybe Christmas???
I'm hoping it will keep me comfortable to 30F. I also just purchased a minimum/maximum thermometer that I...
I guess I'm probably an intermediate+. That said, I'm old enough that I enjoy Class I and II more than III and IV. I don't think my skill level has necessarily decreased, but my willingness to risk a swim definitely has.
Thank you. It is the nicest room in our home. The rest of the house is also impressive—in its smallness, its disrepair and its general messiness. We like that one room, though. :)
I just wanted to show off my paddle collection. All wood paddles are inside. All others are in the garage. Only a few of these are users. Most were included when purchasing used canoes. One was found broken along the river. The room is 20’x10’. To get the picture I used a wide-angle lens and...
Thank you. I recognize a lot of the names here from other paddling forums and have been helped by many (including you.)
I don't know why it took me so long to get involved here.
I have a foam saddle glued into my Yellowstone Solo. I like it there and have no plans to remove it. That said, I've often thought that if I ever did want to remove it, I would use a hacksaw blade just as you did. It's good to know this method will work should the next owner want to reinstall...
