    Ally (Bergans) vs. Pakcanoes

I have a 16foot Ally. It's easy to paddle on flat and in waves. It has two tractor seats which I don't like. I usually paddle solo and have made a central bench seat for it. Different ideas for alternatives to the tractor seats if you search https://www.canadierforum.de/ Sam

    Can you define these wetlands?

Slough is a town in Berkshire UK. Poet John Betjemen didn't like it; he wrote a poem: Come, friendly bombs, and fall on Slough It isn't fit for humans now, There isn't grass to graze a cow Swarm over, Death! Come, bombs, and blow to smithereens Those air-conditioned, bright canteens, Tinned...

Single sided correction strokes - Does your paddle touch the hull?

I am a one sided paddler who pries off the outwale. With my wooden canoes and paddles I have a leather wrap sewn on the paddle shaft. The leather on the nearest paddle is held with velcro so it gets moved to different paddles. With my composite paddles which I use in my plastic gunnel canoe I...

    "Fly Ply" Canoe build video

Thanks Jim It's made from an 8x4 sheet of 3mm marine ply. (British Standard 1088 guarantees no voids and continuous waterproof glue - any voids in the ply would certainly result in damage when bending started) No need to steam anything, but some people pour on boiling water as they bend it up...

    "Fly Ply" Canoe build video

I built the 12 foot one sheet version. It's too low volume for me but will suit my grandson in a few years. Bringing it from a flat shape of plywood to a canoe is amazing. I still can't get my head round it.

    UK paddler

My favourite is usually the one I'm paddling at the time: The Fire is newest to me at present so that is getting more than its share of outings and the Rushton is a fast hull, especially when tandem, although if the wind is not as forecast and I'm paddling either of these I wish I was paddling...

    UK paddler

I've been a memberr of WCHA for about 12 years. I've known Nick and paddled with him for about the same time. We live about an hour apart so paddle fairly often. With the paddles, I made two of them and two others were picked up with broken shafts which I repaired; you can see the top of the...

    UK paddler

Greetings from the UK. I’m a retired teacher and have been paddling around 25 years now. I live in Norwich UK which is on the edge of the Norfolk Broads National park. Apart from paddling I spend most of my time repairing older wooden canoes. These are few and far between in the UK but I do...

Other than the USA and Canada, what country has the most open canoes?

Certainly not the UK! I paddle usually once a week in the Norfolk Broads, one of Englands largest areas of water and I occasionally see kayaks but rarely canoes. In Englands other area of water - the Lake District - I see more, but not many. Sam
