First stripper build: Prospector-16 Help & comments appreciated

Thanks for compliments you all. I really did just get lucky with this one. I agree with you Kliff, it is very rewarding, and challenging for us first timers.

I just went down and measured seat distance to be sure. from bow to front of seat about 51".From stern to back of seat 39". The seats are 15 and half inches deep, I rechecked the seat depth because pictures didn't look right. That's all I know, at least that's what I did. Roy

Stern seat is closer to the rear by about 8 inches? I want my wife to have plenty of leg room in the bow and I wanted the stern seat a little closer to center so I would have good butt room, but I didn't want to be to close to center thwart. I've also read that the stability is better if both...

I made my first seats 14 and a half inches deep, and weaved them with plastic, yes artificial stuff, cane. I weaved them a little tight. Then when I made the seats for my wood strip, I made the seats 16 inches deep. Same material, but weaved a little looser. They felt more comfortable then my...

I remembered sitting in the front of my Mad River canoe with the standard stock seats. My brother and I were running a river, and since he was 8 years older, I thought he'd be more comfortable in the stern. More leg room for him. He was awful back there. Every time he would get out, he would...

Mad River canoes no longer being produced

I guess the old pipe smoking bunny is, dieing of cancer? I've got a MR canoe hanging up in my shop. It's the heavy one, but I have no regrets.

    Sparkleberry Swamp info?

Wife and I enjoyed Cedar Creek. I had intentions to go to Sparkleberry, but decided on cedar Creek at the last minute. Great day paddle.

    Just wanted to say hello

Hello Pat and welcome. I built the Wabnaki a couple of years ago. My wife and I love how it looks and handles. I was very hesitant when it came to fiberglassing, I didn't handle it to well. But Jim Dodd, memaquay, alsg, Alan gage and others on here were a huge help and great support. Looking...

    Rolling truck rack

That's what I was thinking. I was wondering if that would ride ok. Thought maybe a person would have to have a rack on the roof to tie it to? Thank you. Roy

    Left behind item

My nephew and I were heading in after a 4 day trip, and it started pouring rain. We had 2 miles to go, so we threw on the rain gear and kept going. It was a very heavy summer rain. We got to the take out and made a couple of fast carries from the water to the vehicle, it was about a hundred...

    Rolling truck rack

I've got a question. When you rest the canoe on the cab, how do you tie it down in the front?

    Rolling truck rack

Great idea. Simple and effective. I've got a hard bed cover on my bed that raises up from the tailgate. I've thought about bolting a home made aluminum rack on top of it. I get tired of messing with the trailer.

Attempting to make a couple of paddles

Thank you Brian. I was just looking at some pictures that Kona posted on the post he started, Canoe paddle collectors, he displayed a few that transitioned from light to dark wood. That looks good. So hopefully I can smooth from handle to shaft nicely. I'm at 39 oz right now. My blade thickness...

Attempting to make a couple of paddles

You ain't kidding. The price of lumber has gone thru the roof. I need to get back to the sawmill and get some more lumber. It's been a couple of years since I've been there. Pull that cedar board down and turn into a paddle. Roy

Attempting to make a couple of paddles

Thank you. It was my wifes idea. When I was building the canoe I would ask her opinion of what woods to use and proceed with.
