I've got the full beard, along with full figure, I'm going to research the forced air respirators.

    Snake infested water bodies

We have copperheads and rattlesnakes here in East TN, and bites are rare. I have slowly quit worrying about snakes dropping in the canoe when we are paddling in creeks with over hanging trees. Maybe the water moccasins are known for that? We don't have any of those here even though some claim we...

Lofting Canoe Molds from CanoeCraft tables

Thank you Cruiser for explaining that. I've looked at the lofting measurements in Canoecraft several times, and struggled a little trying to figure it out. You're a wealth of information. Thank you.

    A Raven from Scratch

I epoxied rails to the inside on the one I built. After the trip I took last year, I thought it was to low and not enough back. I think I started out 5 or 6" from center. I didn't leave enough rail to move it back, and even to raise it on the existing rails I figure it would be a real pain. Last...

Weather 1/25: Cold, Cold, Cold, Wind, Wind, Wind, Wind

We don't get much snow in this part of TN, so if we do enjoy taking walks in it.This 4" snow fall shut the schools and some businesses down. The store shelves were ravaged the day before. I won't get a boat on the water till it gets above 45 degrees out. Instead I stay busy working on canoe or...

Canoe foot brace - side pegs or cross bar?

I never move my foot pegs. I thought I might have to depending on what time of year and what shoes I'm wearing, but not moved them yet.

    Winter footwear preferences?

I bought a pair of NRS neoprene boots. It rarely gets below 30F around here in the winter, so I don't need anything extreme. I got a size larger, so I can wear thick wool socks. Even when I get water in them, my feet still stay warm.

Canoe foot brace - side pegs or cross bar?

I put the foot pegs in mine. I think they are a little more out of the way then a cross brace. I used T nuts on the back side of a strip of cherry, and epoxied that to the inside of the hull. I had to cut, and grind, and file, the ends of the T nuts so they didn't poke through the strip of wood...

    A Raven from Scratch

I'd put in the earbuds, put some tunes on and take it one section at a time. Sanding the inside sucks!

    A Raven from Scratch

Could you make a single stem, and squeeze it in? It doesn't have to be a thick beefy stem. Even several pieces of strips, maybe a little wider or thicker than the strips you're using, slide them in along the sides of the stem end. Hmmm 🤔 thinking on it. Surely there is a work around that may...

    A Raven from Scratch

The plans for the Raven I built didn't make any mention of being stemless. It discussed one or 2 piece stems I went with the 2 piece stems because it was what, I assume, the true design of J Winters. And it was interesting to do. Enjoying following along. Roy

Kayak vs Canoe - Your Personal Pros and Cons

I have very little experience with kayaks. I've been in a white water kayak for 10 minutes, and I have never been on a SOT. Nothing against them, but not my preference. I like how a canoe sits, the openness and the carrying capacity. I can easily enter and exit a canoe without getting my...

    A Raven from Scratch

Glad your back at it. I decided to take a year or two off from building another. I've never used a shaper, so I don't know anything about them. After cutting my strips out of the rough lumber, I ran them through my table saw before routing the bead. The router setup couldn't handle that much...
