Not the photo of the day

Not sure I've ever neglected it for an entire trip but I certainly take varying numbers of pictures on different trips. Some trips I am like a videographer and take hundreds, and other times I come back and only have a dozen or so, if that. But there always seems to be 4 or 5 at least.

    Yes, I still paddle.

Well it was meant to be a completely tongue-in-cheek comment - so let me rephrase it. Personally I don't think a "square stern" even is a "canoe".

    Yes, I still paddle.

Personally I am appalled that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau - a very accomplished paddler - has not introduced legislation to prevent the words "square stern" and "canoe" from being used in the same sentence! When will this government finally take action!

    Cross Bow Draw

One only needs to watch a young teenaged Paul Mason in Path of the Paddle to see that the Cross Bow Draw is one of the most amazing strokes there is. It is honestly one of the most beautiful and elegant things I have ever seen in a canoe. I can't do it yet myself - my 50-something body with...

    Review of Estwing Sportsman's Axe

Yeah I use the grinder - I'm lazy. Actually usually 800 grit sand paper if possible. Probably a bigger mistake is letting Scouts use my hatchet so yes it does end up getting pounded into the ground and what-not.

Now THAT is a canoe ad!

A bit of context - Westboro is a very trendy neighbourhood here in Ottawa :-) https://www.kijiji.ca/v-canoe-kayak-paddle-boat/ottawa/16-fiberglass-canoe/1385685714?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true Chopping waves and dropping panties. 16’ of chick magnet fiberglass. Camo for concealment and...

    Lac Lambert Loop, La Verendrye

Yeah that site is not on the official map Robin - when is the last time you would have seen it? The main route description on MyCCR is from 2009 and it was featured in that writeup, which is where I got the site from. Based on that description it was relatively easy to find the island they...

    Review of Estwing Sportsman's Axe

I love mine - have had it for years. Though I would not call it an axe I'd call it a hatchet. I also have a full sized 26" axe version which is even more amazing. The only real problem with both of them is the biggest feature really - all forged from a single piece of steel. Once you sharpen...

    Lac Lambert Loop, La Verendrye

Wow and I now have obtained a crystal clear high-res photo of the route 70 map at Le Domain, taken just last week. I've now updated my google map with all of the campsite info - I'll go back and add EVs and a few other tidbits. The internet is an amazing place! Even better when people share...

    Lac Lambert Loop, La Verendrye

Does anyone have some recent maps with campsites marked that they can photograph and post? I'm honestly tempted to drive up to Le Domain just to take pictures of their master maps but that seems a bit extreme :-)

Helpful equipment for the solo tripper

Yeah actually I have 2 of the regular Static V, a Static V Luxe (which is wider), also a shorter one for kids, and the double bed sized one for me and me wife. I like the new valve's better than the old ones actually.

Helpful equipment for the solo tripper

+1 on the Klymit Static V sleeping pad. They have a lot of different versions so you can basically save as much weight as you want by going with one of the ones with holes in it. But I find the regular Static V is small and light enough and is truly the best sleeping pad I have ever slept on -...

    Lac Lambert Loop, La Verendrye

OK I just threw together a map of what I think is route 70 including the put-in. The report on MyCCR said the put-in was 33.6 km from highway 117, so I just drew a line on route 44 and stopped every now and then to see how long it was. My line from 117 is 33.8 km so put-in has to be around...

    Lac Lambert Loop, La Verendrye

OK with google and reading various trip reports I have determined that this big arm off of the south west corner of Grand Lac Victoria must be Lac Lambert - though google does not have a name for it...
