:D Poling !!! I'm kind of glad you posted this. Seems we have almost the same boat but totally different. While yours is the 16 & mine the 15 my experience is 180 from yours. Mine is solid & easy to paddle. Even more so I moved the rear seat up a bit.
I know what you're feeling though...
Well I read the Reflection was asymmetrical & could only be paddled one direction. ??
Anyways. I left the yoke alone, but made it a solo without much modification.
I should be more balanced towards the middle now & gave the dog more room as well.
I will take pictures tonight when I go out...
Are you still around Mr. Lance? I was wondering if these were available. I was going to ask if I could buy maybe 6 of them off you but seeing the price I wonder if I should just buy my own? : )
I plan on removing my seats & adding one towards the middle. Thanks for this post. Will come in...
Thanks everyone. It just felt unbalanced to me. I guess it was Day #1 with it. Time to make it my own.
I will probably end up doing what this guy did to his (minus the footrests)
Remove the seats & add one towards the middle-ish. I had no issue paddling from the stern seat but when I...
So I went against Mr.Polings advice & got the Dagger Reflection 15. :geek:
Other than getting used to a narrow canoe I really liked it. My dog shifting his weight and leaning against the side when I wasn't ready for it led to a buttclenching moment for sure. I also didn't get any oil canning...
Hate to bump an old post but thank you so much Poling. I was seriously looking at a Reflection 15. It had solid user reviews but for some reason I take yours more to heart.
Hey Carpenter.
I let it go. I will wait for perfect to come along. I forgot to mention I do have 2 canoes. The 16 foot beast which is awesome but heavy and a 14 foot royalex Mad River which is light but slow. If I have to paddle to move it's the fiberglass. If I intend for the river...
So there WAS a fiberglass version? The only info I could find was a Kevlar Expedition (w/ wooden gunwales) and the Kevlar Lite (w/ aluminum) So the seller could be accurate in describing it as fiberglass. If it is indeed 78 pounds I wouldn't be breaking any new ground.
Like I said my 16 foot...
I always like to come here for the great advice from the elders....so here we are again.
Anyways.
I have a 16 foot fiberglass canoe. I absolutely love this thing. It's super stable & super fast. A little troublesome against the wind but overall a joy to paddle.
Now for the bad...... I...
It's actually quite nice little tent-thingie. Makes it less claustrophobic in there.
I was going to go this week but I don't think camping in 100 degrees sounds fun. ; )
(oh & yes, the rack I basically stole from a U-Pull. The lady said $30. I was like "OK" In & out like a thief in the night)
It's nice. Wind deflector in front. The crossbars are adjustable. The trim pieces broke quickly with the canoe loading but that's why they make black Gorilla tape.
It's a fun van. I only paid $800 for it & was only 94K on the clock when I got it. Now it's my daily driver.
I pulled the seats, laid down a thin piece of plywood & made it a camper van. TV / Twin bed Futon / etc.
I never did get around to adding a 2nd battery so I just make sure to camp...
Thank you so much Mike. I even emailed MRC & asked what style canoe the trailblazer was rebadged from. Of course they never responded.
Sounds like I will just leave it be. It's not horrible as I still enjoy using it, but it cannot compete with my oddball French Canadian canoe I...
