I was raised in south central Kansas. I grew up camping hunting and fishing with my father. Around the age of 25 I came across a book by Calvin Rutstrum, that sparked my interest in canoeing and most of all canoeing camping and tripping. Now I must tell you that where I grew up was not what you would call canoe country but after reading everything I could find on canoeing and tripping I was hooked. My first boat was an old osage aluminum canoe. Fast forward 36 years ,I now live in northeast Oklahoma (still not the canoe country of my dreams) and I enjoy doing things the old traditional way.
