The Strange Things You See on the River

There are some remnants of a former railway bridge not far away from Prague, Czechia and somebody built a cabin? on top of one of the pillars. https://en.mapy.cz/s/retebofara

Experience Canoeing in Fort William, Scotland?

Alternatively, you could ask the locals. Brits have a very nice canoeing discussion board. https://www.songofthepaddle.co.uk/

The sacrifices we make in life for paddling

Yes, that pretty much sums it.

108km in five Days on german lakes

Heh, from the viewpoint of a Czechman it's somehow funny to hear a German complain about a lack of lakes… :-) Schöne Grüße von der hoffnungslos aufgestauten, gedämmten und kanalisierten Moldau.

    Gunwale padding?

Some time ago, due to my laziness, I ended up with a makeshift fix made of a satin ribbon and cheap sellotape. To my surprise it just refuses to disintegrate and works nicely. It's ugly as heck, though.

    lieutenant paddler

I find it sad that such things even have to be invented… On a more practical note, I'd be interested in seeing the effect of recoil when firing the grenade launcher.

Waterproof Speaker - Say It Isn't So

On a totally unrelated off-note, there is one sound that I have found deeply soothing and sleep inducing, and, surprisingly, it's the sound of a running fission reactor: Can't say much about why or anything. It just works with me. Nothing else does, btw.

Wealthy Californians Move to Montana and Block River Access

It's my experience that cleaning the place before you use it also tends to do wonders.

Portable Wind Turbine - Solar Alternative?

Not that I need much during my trips. I'm not a gadgeteer. But I have to confess I do enjoy the paddling videos by some of the more talented / dedicated guys. Riverwalker, Maratokambo, ToBoFilm, Steve Flusswanderer, Ingo Ammerhai… Granted, Germans/Austrians and inflatable kayakers on top of that...

    A blast from the past

Ah, styrofoam or inflatable vests, icehockey helmets, fibreglass battleships with tons of displacement… Those were the days :-) Thanks for posting.

    Which PFD do you have?

A green Hiko Cinch, with harness. No idea whether Hiko exports overseas but here in Central Europe they are a reputable manufacturer.

Paddling you've done outside of the USA and Canada

Yes, I have. In fact, I do all the time. I've never paddled inside of the USA or Canada, though :-) This is my home waterfront, to give you an idea. (I took none of the photos myself.)

    Hello from the UK

Most of them feint, although they are very good at it. Some even start an aerial strike and change the direction at the last possible moment to avoid contact. But some just hit head on. You never know. It's cool that you've been here :-) Due to family related reasons I can only paddle on River...

    Hello from the UK

Well, not necessarily but one has to understand that they are the villains :-D 🦢
