Hit the road at 6:30 in Albany, got to Schroon Lake, miraculously found a parking space by the water at 8 am. Took a nap then paddled the Rapidfire for a couple of hours. Lot's of families and friendly folks around and long lines for coffee at my favorite shop. Viewed through binoculars with...
So Glenn, how's LG? I was almost going to come up and do a little stream paddling near L Luzerne but decided against it. Need to be home by 3 for the women's NCAA and get ready for early trip tomorrow.

I really don't know how to figure it, but I have a feeling that the two lane roads in the areas of totality could get gridlocked. Even on the worst days of July 4 or other big holidays I've only seen bad backups on the Nway when you get down to Albany for the Thruway entrance - there I've seen...
Looks like we should have clear weather on the 8th in the Adirondacks which is a nice surprise. Planning to leave Albany area early a.m., get to my spot which will have one minute of totality and hang out for the day. Bringing a canoe though I don't plan to view from the water. I bought solar...
I also worked there late '60's, early 70's, though I wasn't paying particular attention to the beauty of the area. Lots of partying and sleeping til noon as I remember. It's a pretty quick drive for me so for the past seven years I've spent alot of time in this gem of an area. My wife chefs...
Not looking as bad as it did. I'm showing cloudy but no longer a washout on Sat. May take a drive down earlyish Sat if I don't get called for grand daughter duty.
When I decided that it was time to invest in a folding saw to deal with sweepers this spring, I just didn't really want to spend for a Silky. I came up with this and also use it and a larger model around the house. They carry them at H Depot if you want to take a close look at one. Cuts very...
Well, I did get the Firebird pack and had a great season with it. Never really thought much about converting anything since I don't have alot in the way of work space and good used canoes around here have been in pretty tight supply.
The Firebird got me exploring some great little streams last year.
My all time favorite "real" sweater is a Peregrine Hudson Aran fishermans sweater. Heavy duty British wool, made in Gr Britain; got it as a closeout from Sierra Trading years ago. They still make them but not sure if anyone stocks them in N America. Expensive, though I see them on Ebay occasionally.
I did end up getting that Firebird pack. Picked it up mid-May at Raquette River Outfitters in Tupper and have spend most of this season getting to know it. Early season was on the lakes where I had the most convenient access, so as anticipated I was practically spun like a top a couple times in...
