    Breakfast ideas

About the only way I use dried eggs is to add rehydrated bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, etc to them. If I have some rehydrated breakfast sausage or bacon, even better (I do dehydrate!). Breakfast burritos are one of our favorites. As for the dehydrated hash browns, I get small packages...

    bag source for home dried??

I am putting together the food for a 4 person, 7 day canoe trip. We use the vacuum sealer for most things, but I would like to package some dried eggs and (separately) some dry milk. Since they are so powdery, DH is a bit worried the powder will be sucked into the heating elements and really...

    foot bar

I am pretty sure the Wehnonah foot brace is from Kevin Carr at Chosen Valley Canoe Accessories. I have found Kevin to be a very helpful resource about mounting alternatives. I have put his foot braces on many of my boats. These old, arthritic knees kneel only in an emergency these days, and the...

    Canoecopia 2015

When I lived in the Midwest, I went every year (>10 times). Sigh. It is just too far from Utah. Pam

    Tandem Build - Des Moines

As for serious paddlers in the Des Moines area, I used to paddle some with the Central Iowa Paddlers. I agree most paddlers are of the Grumman-in-the-back-yard type, but CIP didn't meet that description. What nature center are you supporting? Sounds like a great raffle item. Pam

    Ideas for menus to dehydrate

Iskweo, I can't believe I never thought of making my own raisins from grapes I didn't get around to eating! We dehydrate a significant amount of food for trips, either in the canoe or a travel trailer. Nothing like wowing people with a pizza or strawberry shortcake a few days in a trip! Pam

    Lanterns for canoe camping

Norton and Odyssey, I grew up on the traditional Coleman gas lanterns, but they are too bright for my taste these days. If I am out before mid-May or after September, I usually take a propane Coleman lantern since it has adjustable brightness. We don't always use it, but it is very handy for...

    What dose ageing canoer need?

Mine is similar but folds smaller. The back is on a leather-like hinge that folds over and makes the max length just the size of the legs. The seat will fit in the outside pocket of a Mason bag or an internal frame backpack. On day trips, we just tuck them next to the carry handle of the boat.

    What dose ageing canoer need?

Kevin Carr can be found at http://www.gear4portaging.com. Call him and say CanoePam told you about his back bands. He also sells adjustable foot braces.wonderful fellow who does outstanding work, both for able-bodied and adaptive paddlers. Note the back bands themselves are moveable from boat...

    What dose ageing canoer need?

Since I just celebrated my 60th birthday, I do make some accommodations. My portage boat is kevlar, though our river boat is still Royalex. We use little tripod chairs with a back, but I can't think of the brand. We add weight in our gear though: a taller tent I don't have to climb out of, good...

    New from Utah

It is a small world, isn't it? I still manage the yahoo group for Sticks in the Water, and I would love to get on another paddle with Nick and the crew. Don't think I will be doing an Upper Iowa River trip this year, but I hope to the following year. Last year's paddle was wonderful!

    New from Utah

I am a long-time canoeist, and I was pleased to find this site while doing research on a Green River trip. I have been in the west 2 1/2 years. Before that I lived in Iowa for >20 years. My major canoe trips have mostly been in the BWCA, 8-10 of them. Now that I live in the west, I am going to...
