I just got informed yesterday that I'm being forced to work next Saturday from 4 to midnight or I would definitely do this with you. I haven't been on the water yet this year. I'm no racer (actually hate racing canoes - defeats the whole purpose of a canoe in my opinion, but to each their own) I...
I was starting to wonder if bent gunnels is a Texas thing. I don't think I've seen so many wavy line canoes for sale like that. That one should serve you well. Nice find, by far the best choice out of the choices you've shown.
I've been using BPM whitewater 32" bags. Going on year three with them - still going strong. I like how they are covered with a rip stop material to make them a little tougher. Using them in a 16' Old Town thou....

A decent fictional book I enjoyed was "The Corps" by W.E.B. Griffin. It's a 10 book series about the Untied States Marine Corps before and during the years of world war 2 and the Korean War.
Yeah you don't want to use "Great Stuff", the stuff is garbage once wet. The Locktite brand is for water tight applications. I'm sure there are other closed cell spray foam brands out there by now - But I know the Locktite brand is closed cell foam.
Jffdejongh
You really don't want to use spray foam that is an open cell foam... You want a closed cell foam. Most of the spray foams at the hardware store (doors / windows / gaps) are open cell foam. Open cell foam will let moisture in and once wet, the rot begins. There is a better spray foam...
Yeah sorry to go off on this tangent from your picture. 1st time - Two weeks with 2 planned relax days for the choosing. 2nd time two weeks with no rest days. 3rd time, ever shallow which extended the trip by 2 days. All in all I think its like 22 portages and some lining. The longest being...
Raquette River is a great trip in High water. I've run the entire river three times, starting at Raquette Lake South Inlet and ending at the St. Lawrence River. All three times I did the trip the last week of May.
Chilly but bug free
Knew I recognized that landing.. I feel the same as you - don't really care for Raquette Lake but Forked Lake is a little gem of a place. However I have spent some great nights at Tioga Point in the off season.
I used to use a Garmin GPS. Past 5 years I've just been using my smartphone with Google Earth. Really I still prefer to use a good paper map and compass on long trips. But the laziness in me, makes it to easy to just pop open the screen on my phone and see my currently location without...
Also use a bleach bottle with the bottom of the bottle cut off. Tie a string (para cord) around the built in handle of the bottle and the other end to my seat. I just kick it under me. If I need it real quick I just grab for the string.
Coldfeet - I"m pretty interested but not sure when I would have the time to pick it up. If you recall I have that exact canoe. Love it - and would love to have another
I've run this race three times... it's a long long day! Even thou it is early spring the Susquehanna R is Flat and Slow.
The first time I tried this race, I was in the 9th grade so my buddy and I had to of been around 15 or so. We took it on in a 16' Grumman and never made it to the finish...
