What a beautiful little boat, very nice work I imagine a rod holder would clamp nicely on the front of that cockpit. (y)

The new end caps arrived but unfortunately didn't work out. I'm going to have to make something there. I had a good day in the shop though. I got the gunnels drilled, epoxy sealed all the holes and got them riveted on with back up washers. The thwarts are installed and the other set of studs...

After some chores I spent some more time in the shop. I mounted the stern carry handle, placement was dictated by the width of the drill. I wanted it close to the float tank but far enough out that there wouldn't be any knuckle contact and also easy to clip a dry bag onto. The soft jaws in...

That is Powder King. It's a 3 hour drive for me to get there but worth it. Since there's almost always soft/fresh snow my daily driver is a powder ski and my actual powder ski is a Japan type powder ski. However that soft snow that doesn't set comes at a price. -20C/-4F is a pretty normal...

@Jim Dodd When I read Dogbrain's build thread he had said he mounted 8" aft of center but he commented in this thread that he later thought he moved it back further. I believe it was in Dogbrain's thread where I found this quote by Memaquay and saved it to my build notes. "I paddled a...

@Gamma1214 I've had enough experience with poor judgement that I'm more careful now. Everything is taking a lot longer than it should at this point sine I don't want to screw it up. I made a small drill guide to drill the holes for seat brackets. I wanted the holes low enough on the...

Measure twice, cut once. I put a level across the top and measured everything out height wise for the seat. After calculating it out on paper in mm I trimmed then propped the seat up at 8' under the front and 9" under the rear. I then measured the sides to see if my calculations for the drop...

I did consider making some but the purchase cost was low enough that it doesn't justify taking the time to make a custom piece. If the store bought option doesn't work out then I'll have to go custom. Your build thread/tutorial is excellent BTW. The wooden plug idea is a great one. I was...

I ordered some fiberglass end caps that the folks at Clipper thought might work after sending in some measurements. I kind of like the idea of the aluminum decks Pseudonym suggested. I'll have to see what I have on hand for scrap aluminum if the fiberglass ones don't work out.

Well I made an attempt at a wood end cap. After spending a few hours I could see it wasn't going to look right with the rounded aluminum. If I can't find a pointier matching plastic end cap I'll likely try making some out of glass. The end caps I originally purchased would have worked had I...

After some running around this morning I fought the gunnels into place. It really helped using the strap and paddle to pull it up and angle it into place while gently hammering on the padded 2x4 further back seating it. After getting them into place I put the end cap on and could see that it...

@stripperguy A better term would have been wear strips. It was just the 30" pieces of 6oz, one at each end.

Skid plates installed. I used about 30" of 6oz tape on each end. Also finish sanded the outer hull with 120 grit on an interface pad.

I put a little time in on the boat today. Flipped it over and cleaned up the masking line with 180 grit on the RO with an interface pad. Cleaned up the flat edge with 120 grit and no pad. I masked it off with the tape right at the bottom of the walnut for the first coat. After the first coat...

@ThatPaddlingGuy It feels like its getting close to taking it for a test paddle. Lakes don't thaw here until the 1st week of May though. I finished level sanding yesterday. I used that longboard with 80 grit then went over the hull with 120grit on the RO with an interface pad. After that...
