Photobucket is the Devil!

One of the worst parts about this is, there is no place to send them feedback and express your desire for them to shove the site up their A$$.

Just playing with google photos. Guess there is no way to 3rd party share form there.

My photo bucket is still working, and no notice about a $400 increase.

I'm guessing from the "100% 3rd party posting usage" business that there is some unknown limit to the number of photos that can be posted from Photobucket.

No doubt I exceeded that unknown limit, even though I only post photos to this site. I did have some help, as some photos I posted here were used on other sites.

I don't think there was a limit Mike, Photophucket just decided that for the basic service, they were going to stop allowing the 3rd party posting .... it has been part of the basic package from inception .... now you have to buy the special, deluxe, superduper, plan for a tidy sum of $39.99/mnth to get that feature back. Nothing in between has the feature ... I can't imagine anyone paying that much for that service, given the alternatives.

Unfortunately, that means some 10 years plus of broken links all over the internet, just so they can try and ransom peoples work over all those years. I just deleted the account and the uploaded pics.... I keep my pics safe at home, I use the service just for posting.

While searching for an alternative, I couldn't believe the vitriol out there, about this .... be interesting to watch the backlash.

"It’s not a huge surprise to see a decision like this. Advertising revenues are declining for publishers, and the costs of servers to host 10 billion images are surely incredibly high (especially when requests are made for them from all over the Web). While other free services remain, it seems fairly likely that others will follow suit and start charging for hosting files too."

Looks like the slow death of forums with pictures, Pnett was ahead of the times.

I actually don't disagree on the concept of paying for that service Robin, but when you can host your own website and post from there for $100/yr and PB is asking over $400/yr for something that was previously free ... that goes beyond "charging for service" to something closer to "ransom".

Considering they notified users a week after they changed the terms, broke the links with no warning and offered no reasonable pathway forward for users, I think that is what is angering folks ....

No Title

Yes Brian, I agree. I actually paid the $39 a month ago and now I can't really post pics from PB likeI used to, it's more complicated. This pic is directly from my computer which looks like the way to go in the future.

Ever since upgrading our operating system recently I've been having trouble here. Now don't get steamed Robin!! I'm just say'n my "up to date" Mac isn't getting along with your vBulletin. You'd almost think maybe they're related? Distant kissing cousins? Is that why whenever I try to post something one of them goes "Whoa!! Something just ain't right here!? I'm not going all the way!" But I found a solution to my photo posting problems. I click and drag a photo from my Mac library to my desktop. Using the camera icon at the top left corner of this site's message posting box (whatever ya callit) I can then navigate smoothly. Except that it won't post portrait orientation correctly, only landscape. Maybe these two kids won't get hitched, but at least I can make them talk. That's far enough. Ha!!

I can post from Google Photos to sites like this.

I used to use Picasa and still do. But Google stopped supporting Picasa and seems to have moved all the previous Picasa albums to Google Photos albums.

To post here or on other sites, I go to the three-dot menu on the photo and click on "Manage in Google Photos". Then the same photo comes up under a different address. I then simply copy the picture with a right click (or Cntrl-C) and paste it comment box here with a right click (or Contrl-V).

I have one of those fry pans. Its blue though. I think that on this site we really don't NEED Photo Bucket. The challenge is getting any that you did not save elsewhere on your hard drive back to you via download.

In my Google Photos, the three dot icon does not offer a "Manage in Google Photos" option.
I simply right click on a photo, and choose " Copy Image Location". Then, over here, I choose the image icon, paste in the URL, check the box to retrieve remotely, and Voila!!

I think I've figured out that my former Picasa album photos are in two places, one which I'll call the Picasa place and the other the Google Photos place. When in the Picasa place, I can't copy them as images, but the photos have a three-dot icon that includes "Manage in Google Photos", clicking which takes me to the same picture in the Google Photos place.

Once in Google Photos, which I can also get to directly, I can "copy image" the photo with the right click menu or simply with one click of Control-C.

Once I've copied the photo, on this site I don't have to use the picture icon, the picture URL paste box, or the retrieve remotely checkbox. I can just paste directly into the big text comment box with one click of Control-V.

Two clicks total: Control-C on the Google Photos image, then Control-V in this site's text box gets me this:

I just posted the trip report on the other canoe site using photobucket so we shall see how long they stay there.
