Filtering black water streams

Is Ink Lake in Algonkin park black water? Sure is dark. Never tried to filter it.

Yes, I think it's humic water. Tannin/lignin staining it tea coloured makes it look otherworldly, as that river and lake looked to us when we passed through one summer. We'd filled up our water bottles beforehand, so we didn't test out Ink Lake's drinkability.

I'd call Ink blackwater but of a slightly different kind. The inflow passes through a bog so its full of sediments. A true blackwater stream as in the South though has different challenges. You can prefilter Ink to get the sediment out. Prefiltering the Okefenokee water is apt to lose me some fingers.
