As a builder I can only marvel at the practised ease with which he produces a canoe with only an ax and a knife. Here is another interesting clip from 1954 with a canoe build: http://www.nfb.ca/film/survival_in_the_bush/
and another of a pirogue being constructed that is fascinating: http://www.folkstreams.net/film,188
Cool vids Dave. Thanks. While watching the one from the NFB, I couldn't help but think of Bear Grylls (sp). They made it seem like they were just dumped there for 3 weeks, but even after a few days, the narrator didn't grow any scruff. Also it was him, his guide a camera man supposedly, but even with all 3 on screen, the camera still tracked them.
Sure like watching him build the canoe. Also watched that kid start to see how he made it and then fall off into grab arse with the dog etc. Then watched that commercial canoe full of the young people motor away. They didn't have time for those silly old ways. And that's just how it goes, no one's fault, times pass and things change. I felt bad for him though.
