Photobucket has liberated all pics for third party hosting again! All my reports are back! It's like winning the lottery! They are offering year long subscriptions for 20 bucks too. I'm going to sign up right now!

just great ..Comes with porn. No thanks I have those photos on hard drive. I don't need to see women's booty.

Didn't see the porn, just a old post of of memaquay's group of high school kids on a canoe trip. I did see a guy with a chain saw, but I doubt that's porn. I for one am happy that PB is back, a lot of posts are not nearly as interesting without the photo's.

Thanks for the heads up, It's a good deal, imo. Hopefully, folks who posted lots of PB linked pics with join so the old posts will get those pics back.

I tried to pay the $19.99 and they wanted $34.99- maybe I have too many images stored. Wait and see on this one.

Paid my money, logged in, found no photos. I wonder if I uploaded from my PB backup folder if they would have all the original addresses and auto-fill the missing photos on here.

PB burned a lot of bridges and there are a lot of alternatives now that work a lot better .... why would anyone go back?

Brian

The reason I would go back to PB is I have a lot of pictures stored there and I would like to replace any broken links in past TR's or posts on this site. Can you name a few alternatives to PB that look like they will be around long term. Google Photos is good but I never know if my shared picture is visible to others, I just can't figure that "shared" feature out.
Thanks

I have been using imugr, and it's pretty good. However, like Robin, I have a lot of old trip reports and maps depending on photobucket. Last week I downloaded a bunch of photos from PB, and them uploaded them to imugr, and then replaced the links in one trip report. It took about five hours. I'll pay the 20 bucks.

Here's a sample of my reports that have been restored by photobucket. I also have several more lurking around on other sites as well.

I guess I use the online products a bit different, as I don't really trust online companies for storage and while i keep a lot of photos there, I also have them at home. When PB changed their terms, I just deleted the account as I still had all my photos anyway.

I did change how I do my posting as well, any build threads or longish posts with pictures are all composed in Note Pad (including picture links) first and then posted from that. If I have link issues, it is easy to just replace links and repost .... with minimal work.

Google Photos is what I ended up using, process I follow is:
Make an Album
- add photos to Google, with the same process as PB ....drag and drop
- select the "Albums +" to create a new album
- this brings up uploaded pics, click those you want to add and then click "Create" on the upper left side
- enter the album name and then select the back arrow (upper left)
- this takes you back to the opening screen, if you click that new album .... the album/pictures you selected pop up

Share photos
- select your album, click to bring the photos up
- look on the upper right and there are 3 icons, "add photos", "Share" and then 3 vertical dots called "more options"
- if you click "More Options", select "sharing options"
- this brings up a pop up saying "Anyone with link can see photos or anyone you have invited ......" , just slide the little slider button to the right
- this sets the sharing you mentioned, if you do it for an album, you share everything, if you open a pic and do that, it shares the single pic
- I usually create an album for pics I am going to share, once the album is shared, you can add and post from there and the sharing is taken care of

Posting
- open the photo
- right click, select "Copy Image location"
- go to your post and paste the link ( I use Ctr V to paste or right click and paste)
- the paste drops a very long address that only shows the pic in preview or review
- one thing I have found is required for some platforms (so I just do it for all) is to add IMG between "[ ]" a pair of square brackets at the start and /IMG between square brackets to the end of the link. It did get a bit cumbersome until I started typing in the front/back pieces, then dropping the link between, I find that makes it a lot easier. (eg. [ i m g ] "drop link here" [ / i m g] ) don't use the spaces, I did that to let it post

I went through the pain of revisiting some of my build threads and redoing all the links to Google, which is a pita .... which is why I now do any of the build posts in NotePad and just copy the whole thing to the platform I am posting to .... my current canoe build is done that way, and since that is being posted to 2 boards, it saves a lot of retyping.

As with any of the storage servers, it can be a pita to learn how to make them work for your needs .... I post this to try and help with how to use GP ..... it is my understanding that pictures on PB were always available to download back to your device and with storage so cheap these days that is probably the safest place to back them up. I only post copies to the online servers and keep the pics on my own devices .... if something happens I have a redundant backup, either online or at home.

As far as PB is concerned, I followed the company releases from PB when they 1) changed the terms 2) failed to notify folks ahead of time, some notices were days after change and 3) failing to offer a viable alternative to users ..... I got the impression that they just didn't care about the disruption, as long as they got the money out of the change, like an abusive relationship, I swore I would never go back.

once photobucket pulled the strong arm tactic I deleted all my content from their site and will never go back. I see no reason to trust they won't do it again down the road, f'em...

Cruiser.....
Thanks for the lesson on how to post pictures. I can't even remember how to turn on my camera, much less get them into my wife's computer. I quit taking pictures a long time ago, I do however like to look at a lot (not all) of the ones that show up on this forum.
