I guess I use the online products a bit different, as I don't really trust online companies for storage and while i keep a lot of photos there, I also have them at home. When PB changed their terms, I just deleted the account as I still had all my photos anyway.
I did change how I do my posting as well, any build threads or longish posts with pictures are all composed in Note Pad (including picture links) first and then posted from that. If I have link issues, it is easy to just replace links and repost .... with minimal work.
Google Photos is what I ended up using, process I follow is:
Make an Album
- add photos to Google, with the same process as PB ....drag and drop
- select the "Albums +" to create a new album
- this brings up uploaded pics, click those you want to add and then click "Create" on the upper left side
- enter the album name and then select the back arrow (upper left)
- this takes you back to the opening screen, if you click that new album .... the album/pictures you selected pop up
Share photos
- select your album, click to bring the photos up
- look on the upper right and there are 3 icons, "add photos", "Share" and then 3 vertical dots called "more options"
- if you click "More Options", select "sharing options"
- this brings up a pop up saying "Anyone with link can see photos or anyone you have invited ......" , just slide the little slider button to the right
- this sets the sharing you mentioned, if you do it for an album, you share everything, if you open a pic and do that, it shares the single pic
- I usually create an album for pics I am going to share, once the album is shared, you can add and post from there and the sharing is taken care of
Posting
- open the photo
- right click, select "Copy Image location"
- go to your post and paste the link ( I use Ctr V to paste or right click and paste)
- the paste drops a very long address that only shows the pic in preview or review
- one thing I have found is required for some platforms (so I just do it for all) is to add IMG between "[ ]" a pair of square brackets at the start and /IMG between square brackets to the end of the link. It did get a bit cumbersome until I started typing in the front/back pieces, then dropping the link between, I find that makes it a lot easier. (eg. [ i m g ] "drop link here" [ / i m g] ) don't use the spaces, I did that to let it post
I went through the pain of revisiting some of my build threads and redoing all the links to Google, which is a pita .... which is why I now do any of the build posts in NotePad and just copy the whole thing to the platform I am posting to .... my current canoe build is done that way, and since that is being posted to 2 boards, it saves a lot of retyping.
As with any of the storage servers, it can be a pita to learn how to make them work for your needs .... I post this to try and help with how to use GP ..... it is my understanding that pictures on PB were always available to download back to your device and with storage so cheap these days that is probably the safest place to back them up. I only post copies to the online servers and keep the pics on my own devices .... if something happens I have a redundant backup, either online or at home.
As far as PB is concerned, I followed the company releases from PB when they 1) changed the terms 2) failed to notify folks ahead of time, some notices were days after change and 3) failing to offer a viable alternative to users ..... I got the impression that they just didn't care about the disruption, as long as they got the money out of the change, like an abusive relationship, I swore I would never go back.
