When we venture out on a canoe trip we try to keep things to a minimum. This usually means one large canoe pack and a food barrel, but I always take along a smaller 'day pack' for those side hikes, plus it's much easier to access smaller items instead of opening up the larger pack all the time. Up until now I've never been able to find a small pack that claimed to be waterproof, but this past summer I came across the Mountain Hardwear Scrambler 30 (due to it's 30 litre size) backpack that claims to be 100% waterproof. After tripping with is for a month I can say that it is in fact waterproof. Ideally I wish it was a bit smaller, say about 20 litres, but it was the smallest pack I could find at the time.
