Picked up a new Eureka Timberline Kananaskis outfitter 4xt today at a local shop. I haven't owned an a-frame tent in 30 yrs.... It's well constructed, rugged and big, Anyone use these on canoe trips? The overall size and weight concern me, I have a simple 4 person Eureka Scenic Pass dome style that suites my needs, but the Timberline was on for a great price and I couldn't pass it up.

I dont encounter any portages in my travels but these days most are going with lighter gear, I appear to be going in the wrong direction.

12 pounds isn't at all a problem. Our MEC Wanderer 4 is 11 1/2 and we portage up to 2km with it. I like that tent though and some of the smaller offerings they show on the site.

I loved mine, used 2 of them for years. Usually hammock but I have a Coleman knock off that I still use occasionally and loan out a lot.

timberline 4 outfitter was my primary canoe tent for 25 years...if i had to pick one tent, that would be it
