Tarp type and set-up style, and let's see some pix

I prefer a lean configuration for the combined wind and rain protection and may use paddles for support. Using paddles as supports prevents paddling while in use but I seldom paddle from camp in wind and rainy conditions and support installation and removal is quick and easy should I choose to...

Do you roll, fold or stuff your tent?

I fold and roll my tent in calm conditions and I stuff my tent in windy conditions.

    Pillows

The Trekology Aluft Pro inflatable pillow that I currently use has a retaining strap that I position around my sleeping pad. It is also ergonomically wedged shaped, 5 inches on one side and 3 inches on the other side. I prefer to place the 5 inch portion under my neck with the 3 inch portion...

How do you inflate your air mattress?

I prefer pump sacks for inflating sleeping pads when remote camping and electric air pumps for inflating them when home or car camping.

    MEC Mantis tarp

Rubbaboo, did you use the Whetstone shelter as your primary sleeping shelter or as a separate shelter for cooking and hanging out in ? On recent remote canoe camping trips I have been including a shelter in addition to the tent I sleep. I use it for cooking, eating and spending time when wind...

    MEC Mantis tarp

The MEC Mantis Tarp has similarities to the Big Agnes Whetstone shelter and the Blackdeer Boat Solo Tent Pro. The Boat Solo Tent Pro is currently available for sale. It is not as compact or as simplistic in design as the Mantis Tarp but screen mesh sides could be added to it and it may meet...

    Custom application equipment

Many of my DIY projects were intended for custom applications. I still use the first backpack I made. I wanted a backpack with compartments appropriately sized for specific equipment. I was able to simplify the design and avoid incorporating unnecessary features. Sometimes customizing equipment...

    Custom application equipment

I often choose equipment for custom applications. This may limit versatility but can increase speed and efficiency. Grand Trunk's Evolution Sleeping Bag Hammocks are an example of what I consider custom application equipment. The integrated hammock and sleeping bag are not ideal for all...

Paddling humor: one-liners said to you while paddling

" Stop talking, you're hurting my ears" I was in ear shot of my oldest son when he said this to the young paddler in his canoe that had been asking too many questions at the end of a long day of paddling .

    Breaking up Freeze-dried Packages

I repackage freeze dried meals into ziplock freezer bags in the appropriate portions so that I can rehydrate and eat them directly from the bag. This saves space and allows for convenient preparation and cleanup.

    MEC Mantis tarp

I apologize for the link in my previous post. I just did a quick google search so that I could post a photo of the Big Agnes Whetstone shelter and that was the photo that I came across. I edited my previous link. John

    MEC Mantis tarp

I use similar size screen shelters for cooking, eating and hanging out in when I need relief from wind, rain or insects. I take one in addition to a tent and in place of a tarp. I use modified freestanding screen tents that range from 3.0 lbs - 5.6 lbs depending on the number of people and...
