Canoe has been a very nice solo tripper for many years, I’m 6’, 220, makes an good day tripper tandem for a smaller couple (adult and child) Canoe has a 4”x4” patch on the bottom and two cracked ribs in another area. If I replaced the ribs and canvas this canoe would be well over $1500. Canvas...

    Video about traditional wannigan use

I posted this here rather than the video forum as the author does a nice job explaining the proper technique for setting up the thump line and then he goes on to show what he packs inside.

Has anyone been to this event? After my planned canoe trip up north of Geraldton in northern Ontario ( fingers crossed), I was thinking of stopping at Fort William in Thunder Bay, then head on down to this rendezvous. From the website it looks pretty interesting. 2024 Grand Portage Rendezvous...

Build your own canvas wall tent

Years ago I bought an 8x10 wall tent package (tent, angle kit, stove). I cut conduit pipe for the interior frame and set out for my first trip. My outfit was so heavy that I soon realized I would be limited to car camping. I wanted a 4 season outfit, but most importantly I wanted to be able to...

Taken from “Camp and Trail” by Steward Edward White 1906

https://www.gutenberg.org/files/32950/32950-h/32950-h.htm CANOES I suppose I have paddled about every sort of craft in use, and have found good qualities in all. Now that I am called upon to pick out one of them and label it as the best, even for a specific purpose, I must confess myself...

    An old neighbors ax

My neighbor gave me this old ax head she found on her farm, so I wire brushed it and hung it on an old handle I had. I doubt if she will accept it, but I'm going to offer it to her as a display piece. It's a 4 lb head, 8" by 5", I'm guessing it's an really old one, the farm has a long history.

    Second Machias Lake, Maine -video-

I took advantage of the great weather earlier this week and headed over to eastern Maine for 3 days. The Machias River runs 76 miles from Fifth Machias Lake down to the town of Machias on Maine's coast. It's a great run but the 5 lakes are perfect for those like me looking for something quiet...

    Nice old drawing

I’m reading an old book, “Glimpses of The Barren Lands” by Thierry Mallet, a very good little book, published in 1930 about his time in the Barrens. Anyway, this caught my eye and I’m assuming it’s a drawing. I liked it so much, I ordered his only other book “Plain Tales of the North”, hoping...
