    Another Chestnut(?)

I've caned seats once Patrick, not too bad, keep the cane nice and wet though. That does look more like a pre-fire than post-fire Robin, quite the rare find if it is.

    Solitude isn't for everyone

I would like to take a solo canoe trip but have to settle for going on a 3 week fishing vacation alone yearly now.

    Kite build

Alan, it got new plugs and one used coil. The forms were sanded but there are two new projects before the strongback can be set up for the Summer. One vintage Langford w/c canoe to finish and a trailer to finish. Trailer had AC unit added after repairing the roof structure and the end back was...

    Grizzly bears in Manitoba

Not a problem. Just wait until they interbreed and we get white grizzlies. I posted it for anyone thinking of a Seal River trip.

    Kite build

This is good information as the person using it will be over 240#. It is being built for a specific person. There is more going on that just the truck repair, the melt has begun and yard is flooding so water control is before canoe as well.

    Kite build

Forms are cut out but now the space is used for truck repair. Certain things need to be done before the strongback gets set up in the space and lives there awhile.

    Kite build

Christine has begun to build a new stripper and I shall share photos as I can. I may or may not be assisting with this build and she is no longer on this site. She is tracing out forms on plywood, this whole build could take some time but since we have a couple hundred feet of snow thaw is a...

Atikaki P.P. Park in Manitoba-Wallace Lake to Leyond, Berens and Pigeon Rivers

We had another Snowdown event last October and with the drought, low water and back country entry restrictions this year it is likely there is much tree damage on the Wanipigow R/ Broadleaf route as well as on the Mothers. We have not been in the area since 2017 thus have not done any portage...

    Alternatives for this site's future

would it be possible to download this entire site to external hard drives or such to save the content? Would be a real shame to lose all the older material as it cannot and will not be replicated. Then if it cannot be moved if that happens, it could be re-entered at a new site or left here and...

Woodland Caribou Provincial Park is Closed due to fires

Christine and I, having canoed Atikaki for 10 years always looked at the amount of wood on the ground and how dry it has been since 2013 that eventually the entire province would burn and it would appear to be this year. Since 2013 the snow pack has melted weeks before ice out thus the area...

Woodland Caribou Provincial Park is Closed due to fires

More than half the park has burned now but the big fire, Kenora 51 hit a natural fire line from a burn a few years ago to the north and is mostly advancing south into crown land. In the meantime, fires in Manitoba have burned the Bloodvein, Leyond, Barrens and Pigeon and are still active...
