WCPP five years later than planned

Nice looking area & it's great to see that it's not burned to a crisp. I've been a bit worried about that as WCPP is on my radar for sure (but not until at least 2028). Unfortunate that your friend couldn't make the trip but I'd think taking your son would be an outstanding alternative...

The final preparations are gathering pace...

100% agree that it looks like a great place and thanks for taking the time to post. It appears there was a lock involved... Was this within the nature park? (I passed thru my 1st lock on Sunday... sure beats portaging!) One question: In this image Are those wrapped water plants (maybe...

    Pocket Coffee

Hmm... looks like something the Babylon Bee would do (maybe why it's not on the Jungle site? Nope, scratch that. Marketing gimmick. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/maxwell-house-coffee-name-change/

Elephant (!) charges canoes, attacked woman cheats death

And people worry about cuddly critters like bears and moose(s). Glad nobody was killed but ya have to wonder if maybe they could have outrun that beast if the guide was using a bent shaft or a (gasp)... kayak paddle

    Non-Slip Camp Shoes

I use a Mueller lace-up. I had the local drugstore order it but I'm sure it's available online if that's your preference. It works well & is comfortable but you'll want to tie it off-center or the knot will likely rub under the tongue or your boot (I tie the boot laces off center to the other...

    Non-Slip Camp Shoes

I'm always tempted to take a pair of sandals for around camp but, having broken my right ankle twice, it's become arthritic and I now wear boots with ankle support everywhere I go. Around home, it's leather & steel toes but for backpacking & canoe trips, I use Salomon X Ultras (with an...

New Spring Clamps for Stripping !!!

They'll work just fine without the tubing. I've been building with bead & cove and using these Jimmy clamps without any tubing to protect the coves. They work great and, honestly, I haven't seen much, if any, damage to the cove edges.

Reducing weight of a Strip built hull

Absolutely. Sounds like you've got a great plan for dispersal of any excess. Agreed. Not to stray from Jim's search for opinions on fill coats but I've often wondered about people's trim preferences... I think Canoecraft recommends inner & outer gunwales at 3/4 inch each for a total of 1 1/2...

    ancient canoe discoveries - Florida

Now, there's an idea... might have to install a mast on the next stripper & fly a jolly roger. (though I doubt the beavers will be impressed)

    Pocket Coffee

Most of the local(ish) tea shops sell loose tea & fill-able tea bags w/ tie strings. I buy those and fill them with ground coffee. Three baggies in the percolator and good coffee is just a soft boil away. The spent bags are more easily carried out than loose grounds would be and, to be...

Day trip on recovering Eno River (N. Carolina)

Looks like a nice paddle and pictographs are always interesting to decipher. Thanks for taking the time to post.

    New from Georgia

Welcome. I'm always interested in Southern possibilities (especially for extended trips) and I'm looking forward to your input.

    Pocket Coffee

Always nice to see if we've missed something easier or tastier but... "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

    Short ONSR (Ozarks) Trip 9/27-9/28/25

Great pics & nice write-up; thanks for taking the time. I've often wished I'd started canoe tripping while my Dad was in shape to go. At 88, he's still around & enjoys reading about my trips but nothing beats being there. Now to convince my kids to tag along on one...

    September BWCA Trip

Sorry that you didn't get much solitude but I'm glad that it (seems to have) went well. Late Fall or Ice-out seem to be the ticket in the BWCA if you can't do one or two brutal portages and get away from the crowds. Thanks for taking the time to post. PS: The pic of you & the pup on the...

POLL: How do you pronounce portage?

I get that alot around here. (which is ok... I mean, I might like 'em but that doesn't mean I that want 'em along)

Aftermarket roof rack options w/o rain gutters

A word of caution (OK, a few of them) to anyone using clamp-on racks like this: After Smokey's post above, I ran a piece of paracord from the top of the t-post to the seat. Not that I was all that worried about the canoe moving but it cost almost nothing and we are getting close to the busiest...

Bugs in Tent: How to keep them out, kill, or tolerate them?

Case in point: scrathy's doohickey in the very next post. My first reaction was "ooo... I like that..." (might still buy one but my trowel works fine)

    Pocket Coffee

I typically detest instant coffee but, at 50 cents a cup, I may give the Mount Hagan's a try (strictly as backup, I'm still taking my percolator). I'm also surprised that Amazon's margin is so low. You can buy it direct and save (literally) a dollar but you'd have to buy $50 of it to get the...
