Last Royalex I had was an Old Town Otter…built like a tank. I can’t even imagine what it would take to dent the front stem like that!! Maybe an NFL defensive lineman with a sledge hammer and bad attitude?

Have always tied down using the loop through the tug eyes…no problems so far

Best advice I can give is to arrange your seat so that about 60% of your weight is on your butt and only 40 on your knees. That way it’s much easier to move your ankles and feet around periodically to give yourself some relief.

You will develop a system that works for you the more times you do it. As with most canoe related things, just go paddling and you’ll figure it out 😊. Welcome to the wonderful world of solo!

Full disclosure…. I’m 74 but still a kneeler. As stated above, lay paddle across the rails and hold on to it and the rails. Step into the middle of the boat with one foot and, if you’re spry enough, as you bring your second foot in take it straight into a kneeling position. Then kneel with first...

Great report, thanks for the museum pics. I met Kirk Wipper (sp?) and looked at canoes many years ago when the collection was kept at a summer camp in some odd old buildings. Amazing to see what it has become! Have to make it there someday.

Welcome. Used to hang out at CanoeSport on weekends, driving 3 hours up from central OH. Great shop, great folks, travelled with Ned and Ron a couple times. Bought several boats there. Great forum here. Hope you get back on the water soon!
