    Nissequogue

That's cool to know Snapper. My Aunt and cousins used to live in Floral Park. I'll try to remember the name of the street. All those waterways you mention are beautiful however there are strict provisions applied to fishing certain sections of them (except Forge Pond). Makes it a little...

Yes, the trout fishing has been great on the upper reaches of the river where it’s freshwater and I even hear it’s good in the brackish sections where browns are stocked by the NYSDEC. Commack? That’s funny. I’m in Kings Park now. Would love to see some of your photos of the river when you were...

    Nissequogue

Have been watching the tide tables, waiting for high tide to coincide with a nice Friday afternoon. Yesterday it seemed about right so I took out, what some call, the “garbage barge,”...it ain’t pretty but it floats. Was on water by about 2:30 and was hoping to hook up with some stripers and...

St. Regis Canoe Area Camping Trip

Great photos! For my future knowledge, would you mind explaining how you achieved that piece of wood all shaved up? Looks exactly what one would need to get a fire started.

    Wenonah Argosy seat height

Lots of great advice there...one other tip might be to add weight to the boat. Not sure if you want to do that though if you just want to enjoy paddling for a few hours but could be done easy enough. More weight would lower the boat in the water offering some more stability. When I've loaded it...

    Lila and Stony Creek

Ahhh...Lake Lila a great spot! Sorry to hear the wind was tough. And that a beautiful Northern! Great Smallmouth fishin there too. Your photos are classic...like the knife and saw and hatchet especially. My Dad had a Pit that looked just like that....Cheyenne. I looking forward to tripping...

    What are you reading?

I meant to say "Oligocene." Server not letting me edit.

    What are you reading?

Nick Karas' "Brook Trout." Very comprehensive. Just one thing bugged me...twice he mentions the Oliocene Epoch as being 100,000 years ago. 👎🏻

    History book recommendation?

You could always try something by John McPhee...he usually good for "obscure" mixed in with a little history. Sorry if I missed his birthday 😉

    Tent screen repair

No Title Not the prettiest, but for what I'll be using the tent for I think it just fine. Didn't use patch...just zig zagged it like latremorej said. Went up the length of the tear and then down again. Thx again!

    Tent screen repair

Thanks, yeah I've seen those stick-on patches but I think I'd rather sew on a square around the hole. The stick on ones might be just a little too small from what I've seen online. Hole about 3inches long and I think the stickons are just about that size. Need something a little bigger.

    Tent screen repair

Howdie, Took family on a trip for a couple nights and dog wound up putting small hole in tent screen. I have a piece of no-see-um netting that I gonna use to patch it up but just wondering if regular thread from my wife's sewing kit good enough to use. I assuming it is. Any feedback, advice...

    Lower back issues

The "archer" position might also help alleviate some pain while canoeing...if you have room in the canoe to do it. It has helped me in the past. Sorry, best picture I could find (this guy older than any of us, so stop complaining ;) haha). His butt would normally be on the canoe seat of...

    Spring Trout

You right lowangle al, that's why I'd like to find a shorter rod in the future but I hear they hard to find. The local streams by me are just as you describe...small, narrow with low hanging vegetation. I found a 4'6" spincast rod at Walmart for $19.99 and have been using that...it like a whip...
