    Need suggestions for backcountry tent??

Eureka Alpenlite XT 2 man for my shoulder season solo trips. Great ventilation and 2 nice vestibules provide great storage. Small footprint - I wouldn't want to sleep with anyone else - even Chick, but great for one person. This thing can be cinched down pretty tight against wind...

    2-Man Tent Recommendations

For 2 people I use a Marmot Limelight 3 person. Love everything about the tent but perhaps the best feature is I don't have to crawl in on all fours. Entry is from the side with a big door. I can sit right down inside of the front door and swing both feet in at once. Every year that ground...

Wabakimi - Lookout River, Berg River, Whitewater Lake, Caribou River

That is music to my ears - thank you Mem. I have to keep reminding for this trip and the Thelon my tried and true fishing techniques I use are for high pressure areas and I don't need to overthink it. In fact, I have a roll of yellow in the basement!! Thank you!

Wabakimi - Lookout River, Berg River, Whitewater Lake, Caribou River

CanoeDaddy, I am leaving for Wabakimi in a few weeks and I have been saving this trip report until closer to the departure time. My 2 brothers and I are heading in, and since time is not of the essence for us ( 2 retired and 1 teacher) we have set aside 15 days to head up and enjoy ourselves...

    Underwear

"No underwear for me 8 months out of the year. I've been going commando for around 7 years I suppose." ...and the promotion to Super Moderator becomes just a bit more clear... Sorry - Alan, couldn't help it. Congrats on the move!

Hauling Two Canoes When Thule Hates You

Thank you Boatman, it does make sense, plus I had seen a picture of that on line. That might be my go-to!

Hauling Two Canoes When Thule Hates You

Hello folks, I have to haul 2 canoes to Wabakimi in a month. I am taking a Nissan Frontier crew cab with a 5' bed. The truck has a cap and I have a Thule rack with max bar widths of 60". Both bars being on the 5' cap leaves a small distance between them to secure the canoe. I have another...

Add Dental Floss to your repair kit

Almost right there with you - I always bring a small spool of 4x tippet material. Chick is handy at in-field repairs.

Any plans for the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse?

I had heard the Beatty thing, and I also heard music guy David Geffen. My BIG problem is finding the receipts to JoAnn's for the cost of those glasses. Clouds moved in so I'm getting my money back.

Finland is Dream Destination for Canoe Tripping

Thank you BB, I was going to jump into the Rapala thing but figured I might get too far into the weeds. I have been correcting people for decades on that one. I also love the word Sisu. While always knowing the word due to living in the Upper Peninsula, it seems to have gained a small...

Finland is Dream Destination for Canoe Tripping

As a Finlander I have faced this pronunciation issue for years. We need some sort of 12 step program or something.

Ok gonna need some planning help to get these crossed off the list

Keeled Over Death Watch - Taking Canada By Storm In my best efforts to enjoy myself, meet new people, and contribute to the Canadian economy, this summer is all about Canada. Due to lack of snow I have postponed my Missainabi trip till (hopefully) next year. Here is my plan for the summer -...

Do you roll, fold or stuff your tent?

I REALLY miss that store - part of my region back in the day so many stops were made. Many years ago while looking around I came across one of those old Camp Trails Tripper XL packs. CT was not known for making really high quality gear, but I had heard about these for some time so I bought...

    Coffee cups, insulated or not.

I have a Yeti insulated mug. I like the mug - I got it through work. I would never buy this myself, since there is a good chance I will leave it on the roof of my truck as I drive off. Just launched a $16 container of cashews off the roof last week. Only cold drinks in this. I simply...

    Tent guyline storage

I have taken a decidedly low tech approach to this. I have nylon cord attached to small carabiners. The carabiner stays attached to the fly (for example) even when stuffed in the sack. The nylon cord is about 20' long. When tearing down, I simply gather up the cord and secure it to the...

Do you roll, fold or stuff your tent?

Always stuffed - I cannot recall where I first heard this, but the idea was if you fold it, you will probably always fold it the same way and compromises can develop in the folds. Could be a Bigfoot thing, but I have faithfully followed this advice ever since.

How is your winter so far?

I know this is a bit of a drift, but winter has sucked so much I'm looking for anything to balance this mess out. Had an incredibly good time at a Peter Frampton concert last nite. Like a bunch on this site I'm sure, we saw him 40 years ago, but his show holds up very well. I have always...

Wabakimi - Flindt River Rock climbing routes

Thank you for your responses. I have forwarded these to my brother and for the above reasons, and a few more, we have decided to wait until we return to Thunder Bay - some pretty good routes there.

Wabakimi - Flindt River Rock climbing routes

In case you don't have it, Wabakimi Canoe Routes by the Friends of Wabakimi has been pretty helpful. $45 but it is also for a good cause. I had mine here in NY in just a few days..
