    Hilldeberg Tent & other items

Gonna check out the gear you mentioned. The pad sounds great, and that heater could have multiple uses - like winter steelhead fishing. Thank you!

What U.S. or Canadian documentation do you need to cross into the other country and back?

I have also noticed they no longer want my dogs rabies paperwork. I hand it over they hand it right back.

What U.S. or Canadian documentation do you need to cross into the other country and back?

Been traveling in Canada for many years and like most things there is a gray area. Only 5 states or so offer Enhanced licenses, mine being one of them in NY. I have only ever used my state issued drivers license. At present only need an enhanced - just used mine going back and forth between...

    Pre-Packing, Bad Idea

I suppose mine is a hybrid. I always start to pack 2 weeks before the departure. For whatever reason I start with tackle and work my way until it's barrel time the day before departure. Everything is staged in the sunroom in neat stacks on top of whatever duffel will be hauling it, and...

    Can Royalex safely freeze?

I purchased my Rockstar, used it twice and it's been in the garage ever since. I backed of the screws and put it away. I don't use it, and with screws backed out I didn't think there would be an issue, but I kept checking the gunnels every spring for the first five years. Never had an issue.

    Hilldeberg Tent & other items

On my recent trip to the Thelon I wanted to check out some gear I had wondered about. Huge Eureka dry bag - too big for me and the thing had some leaks. I wasn't alone with the leaks and I get these are used commercially, but there were not that many miles on this pack. Peregrine...

Does canoeing northern areas reduce the luster of the southern areas?

And as it turns out, for me, this became true. And with the Thelon in the rear view mirror, Wabakimi is becoming more like the ADK's to me. Wabakimi was wonderful, but the Thelon raised the bar by a bunch of course. I may have a different perspective on this since I don't see myself...

    Grizzly Bears

12 gauge pump with the shorter defense barrel, first 2 rounds are slugs, next 3 are buckshot. Never had to reach for it.

    Peak Refuel Freeze Dried meals

When we opened the package and saw those biscuits sitting there we both just laughed, but it turned out we loved this one also!

    Peak Refuel Freeze Dried meals

I have purchased Mountain House meals forever. They are fine, but just in case I need a little shot of life I'll throw some sauce in there. I save the packets from Taco Bell and bring them along. Been eating the exact same 5 meals for years. Now, going on a longer trip with my brothers I...

Anyone been to High Falls lately - if so, how many dams?

    Oswegatchie Questions

Same experience for me, very few people when I went. The first lean-to was full of drinkers sporting a chain saw and a generator, but every other lean was open. We stayed right at the falls, river left? Check the USGS water levels just for fun. Do take a break at High Rock - I often...

    Grizzly Bears

I have travelled about the west a bit, but only 1 time backpacking in griz country in Yellowstone. I don't recall the year, but some dude named Moses had signed in just before me. Anyway, I was only there on a three nite trip but I was never able to feel comfortable. Around ever corner...

Looking to get back to Wabakimi

Hello all, I am really shooting to get to Wabakimi for a month next summer. Did the west part last time - want to go north and west this time. Any intel on Dawn or Webster lakes to fly in and paddle back? I loved that Beaver. I have not been in one, but that upholstery looked like what...

Does canoeing northern areas reduce the luster of the southern areas?

Hi Michael, Wabakimi did call out, but not in a sense there were no other places to explore - still many of them - but this was my first trip to 50 so furthest north for me so far. I just want that feeling of solitude. I leave for the Thelon in a couple of weeks - that might ruin Wabakimi. I...

Does canoeing northern areas reduce the luster of the southern areas?

Pretty strange and completely unexpected. While getting ready for Wabakimi I read some threads on the BWCA site with WCPP and Wabakimi threads. Several posters maintained that going to Wabakimi ruined the BWCA for them. I made note of these posts and thought about them while on the trip...

Hauling Two Canoes When Thule Hates You

As it turned out I only haul to haul the one boat. On the Friday before our Monday departure date my brother tore his retina so had to pass. I had decided I would just use some of my existing canoe straps to lock it in place on top of my standard width bars. Maybe next year!

Satellite Communicator (Garmin In Reach Mini II) questions.

I never used to keep my inReach with me on portages in the ADK's, however further north felt a little different so we kept it with us on all portages/hikes.

Ok, here is the real one. Sorting gear in the rain at Fort William Historical Park. Thank you Deerfoot for the intel.
