I used a kevlar Spirit II on a ten day trip. Ran lots of white water, some pretty big stuff too. Had a light weight girl in the bow, she was sometimes pretty high up in the air, but the canoe performed well. Fast on the flats too, although I'm not sure how the rubber version would compare...

I do it pretty much the same way Mark does.

I run my cloth across the interior hull, I usually have 60 inch rolls, so a solo is usually 3 pieces. I'm not out to win any beauty awards with my canoes. I find this method to be quite a bit easier than a full sheet, if you develop bubbles or wrinkles, it is much easier to work them out.

The Save the Moose Campaign 2024 kicked off to a great start on the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. It might be a bit of a stretch to call this a canoe trip, as it was our first time taking the big 20 foot freighter, with a mighty 2.5 horse engine on it. Then again, it might be a bigger stretch...

I think I'm still leaning toward some kind of mahogany due to the size of the stock. As I mentioned earlier, I have one piece that is 22 inches wide, 14 feet long, and not a knot in it. Might give it a whirl building a solo canoe if my contract is extended into the spring.
