• Happy International Mermaid Day! 🧜🏼‍♀️

Photo of the day

Just after sunset last Saturday on Lobster Lake in Maine. My companion was seeking enlightenment.
I think this season is the season to make an attempt at encouraging my wife to join me on a canoe trip. I have tentative plans to travel with my son, daughter and my wife to Lobster Lake. I have paddled many lakes in Maine and have paddled the West Branch a bunch, but I have never been to Lobster Lake. I am thinking this would be the right place for my wife to experience a trip for the first time. How busy was the lake? I have always avoided Lobster Lake due to my concerns of the lake being much to busy (based on numerous vehicles at Lobster Trip parking lot in the past). I guess I just have to cross my fingers, plan this trip, and give it a go.

We were on Lobster Saturday night, and it wasn't crowded at all, we kept wondering where everyone was. That afternoon we saw a few fishing boats but no other camping parties. We visited all the campsites on the Ogden Point peninsula before settling on Ogden North. I'm sure it's busier in the summer when the water is warm; I've only been there twice, both times during Memorial Day weekend.

We saw one canoe camping party on the West Branch, we went up Saturday and down Sunday so we saw them twice. Overall, pretty quiet for a long weekend with good weather. Chesuncook was a washing machine on Sunday, but what else is new.

Best of luck! For me getting my wife to trip in the backcountry has been the holy grail for a while now, she has a very strong attachment to modern plumbing.

Same. Paddle outings with my lovely wife are limited to half days or locations with bathrooms. I've gotten her 'camping' in the yard, but have given up on overnight canoe trips with her. But, she's wonderfully supportive of my taking trips without her, and is good company on half day paddles as well.

Last summer, my son in law and I camped on Lobster Lake from a Wednesday through Friday. Got a great campsite, one of the nearest to Lobster Stream. We had neighbors and saw other occupied campsites, but did not feel crowded at all. As we were leaving on Friday, it looked like there might be a big influx for the weekend.
