Open question, but primarily to Glenn,

I have about 3 websites, this being one, that I sign into and just stay logged in, possibly for day's at a time. I only shut my computer all the way down about once a week.

Does this cause any issues, tech or otherwise, for the site or for the users?

If it does, I apologize to all!

Thank you!

KO, it wouldn't cause any problem to the site that I'm aware of.

Whether your practice makes sense for you or to any other user would seem to be a personal preference. I frequent many sites I never log out of, but I do shut down my computer every day.

I would guess that staying logged in gives site administrators more knowledge of what and when you're viewing. Is that the case?

Many of us here post enough that we could be identified. This site also has a who's logged in indicator. Anyone can view content, includes coworkers and bosses. So I log out during the workday and avoid posting.

Yes, I can only see users who are logged in, and the various site statistics that are generated can only measure users who are logged in.

You can make your online status invisible in your Profile by unchecking the relevant box under Privacy. Then, no one (except me) can tell if you are logged onto the site. However, if everyone did this, guests would think no one was ever logged onto the site, which would probably deter new memberships.

According to my password manager I last logged in 6 months ago, not sure how accurate that is, the last time I actually remember having to log-in was September 2022 after returning from a month long trip (computer turned off which only happens when I'm away for 2 weeks or more). I have definitely never used the Log Out function.

@Glenn MacGrady

Do your cookies expire after a specified time following your last visit? (I almost never delete cookies).

I'm not positive, but I don't think this site's cookies expire. I don't recall ever having expired cookies as a user, but have have only infrequently and briefly logged out during the Xenforo era. I do know our Xenforo software has always been configured so as not to display any cookie consent panels.
