I always knew my early 1980’s OT Tripper was special - it was a Royal X. Kidding aside, very nice donation by Mr. Lightfoot.

When I was at Georges River Canoe shop here in Maine recently, the owner, Bruce Larson pointed out an Old Town canoe he was working on for a customer.
The original owner was the actor Liam Neeson, I'm not sure of the details but he mentioned it might have been after the actor was in the movie The Mission where he spent some time in native dugouts. I'm not sure how the current owner knew the canoe belonged to Neeson, maybe the Old Town serial number provided the information.

Not any celebrity persons in this picture that I know of, but it was taken at a hugely historical celebrity event on August 15, 1969, in Bethel, New York:

Robert DeNiro. Wonderful movie and soundtrack (Ennio Morricone--interestingly, Morricone did the music for a lot of 60s Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns, eg. The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, Fistful of Dollars, etc.)!
Did some checking. Looks like Liam Neeson behind DeNiro. I guess we're both right! (Where's Jeremy Irons?)

Yes, I didn’t see the movie, (The Mission) and didn’t know DeNiro was in it, but I only mentioned Neeson because of that old Old Town I saw in the shop that had belonged to him. I need to watch the movie.

Here's another U.S. president, at age 25, paddling solo from the stern at Campobello Island, New Brunswick, in 1907. No, I didn't recognize him either.

He needs a pack (or Nancy) up front.

Done.

RR and Nancy Lake Lucky.jpg

President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan in 1983 paddling their canoe "TruLuv" across Lake Lucky, a pond at Rancho del Cielo, their 688-acre ranch near Santa Barbara, California. Ronald Reagan gave the canoe to Nancy Reagan on their 25th wedding anniversary in 1977.

My wife claims that during his 2nd term, he was coming out to give a speech and stood on the wrong side of the podium facing away from the audience. She said Nancy came out and turned him around, and he stated, "Oh there you are", and went on with his speech. My wife said I was watching it with her, but I don't remember. Does anyone remember that? The presidents back then got more respect from the press, and general population then they do now. I was curious if my wife was mistaken or if I'm mentally slipping. Just curious.
