I am redoing a Mad River Courier- Kevlar and need replacement grommets for the front and back grab loops. I don’t seem to see them or just not sure what to get or where. Would appreciate any input anybody might have. The canoe has 2 of the 4 semi intact and looks like 1/2” or possibly9/16” holes if that’s a help! More questions will probably be on the horizon since I got this as a hull only and not much form at that. I was concerned at first but then starter installing wood gunnels and it actually looks pretty decent! Thanks for advice

No doubt there are several DIY options - I’ve used plastic end caps for 1/2 inch Pex tubing on a strip build. If I recall they need a 9/16 hole for a snug fit. Less than $1.00 each at any Home Depot or Lowe’s, among others.

Drill out the ends, cut the insert section to a little longer than your hull thickness, rough up the insert and back side of the collar with coarse sand paper, and g-flex into place. Gives a clean-looking install, but can’t speak to how long the g-flex will hold given that plastic and epoxy often don’t work well together. If it comes out over time I will try contact cement as an alternative to g-flex.

This is a pretty solid idea, and looks really good. I was also going to suggest

They seem to have almost everything hardware related.

Glad to see another Courier rescued. What year is yours? My son has a 4/94 Kevlar Courier which he found in near pristine condition a couple of years ago. It appears to be stock. If you need any measurements or have other questions I will be happy to help.

Thanks for the tip! I will go fishing thru my pex supply, I should have a couple caps somewhere

Halpc, my is a ‘90 model- no where near pristin! But definitely a project canoe. So that being said, with no gunnels to check locations of thwarts or seat I’m sort of using my royalex courier for locations- which also I had to wing that as well. If it wouldn’t be too much trouble, could you shoot me some measurements- say from the front to the fronts of the thwarts and seat? I’m sort of around 59” to centers of the two thwarts. But I gladly accept all info that I can get. This one is 14-9” overall. Thanks

Ours is 58” from the front endcap to the front of the front thwart and 94” to the front of the seat. Your 59” to center of the thwart looks about right. ( The thwart is 2” wide at the center.) The PO also installed a kneeling thwart 4” behind the front one. Paddles great in either direction.

Hey, thanks for the measurements. I am just finishing up with the gunnels and decks. Anyways, here are two pictures of my project. I won’t show the hull cause that’s a project all by itself! Wish me luck…

You might try a good hardware store or amazon as they carry rubber grommets but you might have to look hard to find the right hole size for your rope and the proper OD of the center rubber wall & groove thickness if you want to keep it original. LOL
