Great forum-

I am north of Syracuse. Have paddled a bit… I have switched over to canoeing. Will be doing my first trips this year. One in Quebec for a week with my brother and some solo trips in the ADK. Looking forward to the peace and sanctity.

I stumbled across Robin’s channel… realized that was some good living. Even considering rebuilding a wood canvas canoe after watching him downsize that 18 footer. If I do… was hoping to reach out and get some advice and direction from those of you willing to guide me along.

Anyhow… glad to have found the forum.
Cheers all

Welcome. I'm glad to see you here. I used to live up in that neighborhood. Made paddling in Quebec accessible which was great.

HI DT. Some of the craziest weather I've ever encountered was between Syracuse and Pulaski on the 81. Where are you heading in QC? I'm just across the border from where they nabbed David Sweat.

Welcome DT,

Thanks for the mention, glad you liked the wood canvas canoe and if you get the itch to get one, look out, it's addicting! There are a few folks here who are in the same boat so if you find one, let us know. I'm partial to Chestnuts.

I have been to Quebec many times, LaVerendrye, ZEC Kipawa, Noire River, and last year up north of Chibougamau, even went to Laverendrye with a guy named Mark a couple of times many years ago, he lived near you in Cicero, NY.

p.s.- If you find a Chestnut Chum, we will include you in the "secret handshake" group of Chum owners...

Thank you Erica-
Thank you for the warm welcome. I am very much looking forward to the experience. My brother lives near Montreal, so it will be a great home base for future trips.

We are headed to ZEC Val Morin. He had a great time there and was excited to show me the area. We are planning on about 5 days or nights. His kin is happy I will be going… apparently they didn’t much care for the bugs … Ha! Fully agree with you about the weather… done some salmon/ steelhead angling up that way… winter weather can be pits on that stretch of highway…poor truckers fight that lake effect constantly. I probably drive by you on my way to Montreal it would appear. Thank you for the welcome!

Thank you - well, I did find one… working on arranging a look-see with the seller. It is an early Old Town 16 footer. The canvas needs replacing, one of the gunwales is missing a section and seller said that someone painted the interior. From the pictures it looks like the bones are solid. He is asking $500 for the outfit. Any suggestions would be most welcome. No Chestnuts in my area to date….guess I will have to wait on that handshake lesson ….Ha ha! Cheers

CTC, or is it DT?,
Welcome to the forum. Tons of good folks and good info here, but you probably already know that.
If you're planning some ADK trips, there are a few of us here that collectively have many lifetimes of experience there. If you have some druthers, just ask, I'm sure we can suggest a few spots that will suit your desires.

Stripperguy-
Thank you for the welcome… either is fine… typical go by DT. This forum, as you mention, is full of great folks. I have had many warm welcomes and very helpful tips. I will be certain to reach out about ADK. I can’t wait to embark on my first canoe camp outing. Appreciate your offer!
Cheers
DT
