Cold handle frying pans, they’re still out there.

Picked up a few more CHFPs. Cleaned up and seasoned. Not sure if the small pans will get much use. Two at the bottom of the photo are mine. Two on top will be Christmas presents for my brother.

    St. Regis Canoe Area - 9/29 - 10/1

Me too! Probably won't have that information until next year. Excited to try it out.

    St. Regis Canoe Area - 9/29 - 10/1

Following up, I did manage to pick up a Northwind 20, 4 seater. It doesn't look promising to get on the water with it this year, but we'll see. The weight is fantastic, goes up to the shoulders very easy. Lots of room for kids and gear, can't wait. Ben

    St. Regis Canoe Area - 9/29 - 10/1

An 18' canoe is certainly overkill for just my wife and I on a short trip, but it's all I have at the moment. A 16 footer would do the job and be easier to get around with. I'm working on a '37 Carleton Guide at the moment, also 18'. Guess I don't learn, but I couldn't pass it up. I read your...

Kelly Kettle with Updates and Mods

No different than putting a kettle in the fire? It's just a different way to heat water. I appreciate it's meant to be used on the base and likely won't get one unless I'll be using it in that way. The chimney feature is what drew me to the KK, faster heating.

Kelly Kettle with Updates and Mods

Thanks for the replies. I have a GSI Kettle and a small pot that I use for boiling water on a fire. KK piqued my interest but its not something I really need at the moment. If I did more back packing I could probably justify it.

    St. Regis Canoe Area - 9/29 - 10/1

I took a look at the weather yesterday, probably best it was canceled. No chance for a reschedule this year?

Kelly Kettle with Updates and Mods

Does anyone use the Kelly Kettle over an open fire? I'm talking about setting it on the fire or in the coals like a standard kettle instead of using the KK base. I found a post on this site where someone removed the bail handle and used a pot gripper/handle to pick the kettle up by the top...

Thanks folks, we really enjoyed it. A few more photos for fun. The Otca underway, camp from the water and bacon in the Cold Handle Fry Pan.

    St. Regis Canoe Area - 9/29 - 10/1

Glenn, My brother was in his Wenonah Minnesota II and I had my 1953 Old Town Otca, 18'. I restored it a few years ago. We paddled at a leisurely pace the whole time and traveled at about the same speed. The Minnesota II could've left us in the dust (wake?) if needed though. Both families have...

    St. Regis Canoe Area - 9/29 - 10/1

My wife and I along with my brother and his wife spent a couple nights on St. Regis Pond over the weekend. We pushed off from the put in at Little Clear Pond around 10:30 Friday morning and were on St. Regis right around noon. Paddled around for an hour or so looking at sites. Ended up at a...

    Sleeping pad?

I have used a Thermarest foam pad that you blow up for years, even winter camping in below 0°F temps. This year I bought my wife a Nemo insulated pad that you blow up with the included pump sack (no huffing and puffing). It packs down to the size of a nalgene bottle. I liked it so much I got...

    Floodwood Pond Loop (Adirondacks, NY)

Nice report, thanks for writing it up. My wife and I and my brother and his wife stayed 2 nights on Long Pond a couple years ago. It rained most of the trip but we managed to hike Long Pond Mountatin, very cool. We're heading to St. Regis Pond at the end of the month for a long weekend...

Cold handle frying pans, they’re still out there.

Cleaned it up and seasoned last weekend. Cooked some bacon and eggs in it. I swear they taste better out of this pan!

Cold handle frying pans, they’re still out there.

I was pleased to pick one up on my first try. Loads of cast iron in all different sizes. I'll have to check some other shops to see what I can find. My daughter had fun looking and was proud that she found it for me.

Cold handle frying pans, they’re still out there.

I stopped at a small antique shop a few weeks ago with my 8 year old daughter looking for a CHFP. My daughter dug it out of a pile, paid $5 for it. It's been painted though so I have some work to clean it up. Can't wait to put it to use.
