My wife and I drove our daughter Rachel to her wedding ceremony in Norfolk CT in the old Willys; the canoe that was made for her and her husband by the old man (me). The Willys is a 1958 ( I figured somebody will ask). It was a perfect wedding.

Boreal Birch, I guess your in-laws cold given you an ax and mirror, that way you could go out and split your own wood or sit down and watch yourself freeze!! (My Dad would always say this) I'll be happy to keep everyone posted as we progress on the restoration and when the raffle begins. Thank...

Karin, The form belongs to my friend Schuyler, it's his own design, the 15' is known as the Sharon and the 17' is known as the Norfolk, both are towns in our area. Schuyler does have an Old Town 25' war canoe form, it's big and heavy!!

White ash is lighter in weight than hard maple, black cherry is light but does not have good flexibility. With the emerald ash borer on our heels I am using ash more and more, perhaps just as a reverence to a great tree. The nicest paddle I ever made was sassafras, I gave it away!

I am looking to purchase a pair of solid paddles for my daughter's wedding present. I built her and her future husband a 15' wood/canvas canoe for the big gift, now they need something to paddle it with! I had bought several pairs of paddles from Dri-ki in Maine, they're excellent paddles but no...

Thank you! The Whistle Wing had been stored in a dry barn for 65 years, I had a great foundation to work with. It's a pretty canoe but my favorite is a 1938 Old Town 16' HW that I restored about 6 years ago. I have only done a little work on Morris canoes, they sure have nice lines. A group of...

Greetings, I am a forester in Northwestern, CT. Some of my hobbies are restoring and building wood/canvas canoes, making paddles, ax handles and recently making snowshoes. Much of the material that I use is from trees that are harvested and milled on the land that I am responsible for. My wife...
