Supermarket Food Ideas for Extended Tripping

Fortunately my new haunt of Atikaki Provincial Park in Manitoba is so laden with Walleye and my paddlers love fishing that it becomes a question of what side dish tonight. Copes Roasted Corn takes a while to rehydrate but is worth the wait. The flavored instant potato packets keep things...

Tarp type and set-up style, and let's see some pix

I have to have a tarp. I need to have a view on nasty days if possible. On a Summer trip I had bushwhacked to a remote Walleye lake and found a camp spot to use when I would fly in with friends that fall. At the prep trip meeting I made sure we had the needed tarps. That fall we drew a nasty...

    What's your best dehydrated meal?

I add rehydrated ground venison to the various Hamburger Helpers. Simple and a great meal in the bush.

    GoPro types vs. traditional cameras

I use the Corel Video Studio for my editing of videos. It has way more than I need in an editor as I try to keep things real without all the transitions and effects that are at your finger tips now. Once I got using it a few times I have found it easy to piece together a video with all the...

    GoPro types vs. traditional cameras

I am using a Panasonic Lumix zs200 now. I had a zs100 but the gear for the lens retract started sticking. It had been dropped numerous times and saw a lot of use. When it failed after 5 years I expected to go with some new magic camera but found the zs was still the best value and just what I...

How many paddles do you bring on a canoe trip?

Paddle with a carbon double but bring along a cheap plastic brute for boney spots but mostly as a walking stick for rough portages.

    GoPro types vs. traditional cameras

I have stuck with the small cameras that have zoom capability. Many use the Go Pros but they would never work for the videos I put together. My camera still fits in my pocket but in video use it is almost always on a tripod which I feel is very important to make the best viewer experience.

Tips To Deal With The Great Tick Invasion

As I have dug into what they know about long term issues with some tick bites the stories get too hard to follow. So many ailments may be from untested aspects of what a tick can do to your body.

    Bannock Sacrilege

My go-to camp bread uses the Martha White pizza crust mix. Just add water. I like it because it comes in a plastic pouch that is the perfect size for my 10 inch cast aluminum pan. Covered with a tight lid and low heat for 15 minutes and then flip. When its blueberry season I sweeten with brown...

Video, of a guy tipping a canoe over in the middle of a Minnesota Lake

My worst was heading out into the Quetico in a tandem with a friend. We were last getting going and the three solos headed across instead of taking the long route along the shore. Mid-May and the ice was hanging off the vehicles from the all night drive up. About 28F with the wind kicking up...

At 32.58 of the salvage video the boat is lashed to his truck but I have no idea who made it.

Video, of a guy tipping a canoe over in the middle of a Minnesota Lake

In trying to figure out what canoe he had I noted that the bow rarely made contact with the water. Fishing poles were less than half the length of the canoe. Yoke looked like it could carry a very heavy canoe.

Anyone know what canoe that was. He said 10 foot but was it. Seems to be a tandem.

How is your winter so far?

I am in the process of putting up a new log cabin at my get-a-way cabin at the top middle of MN. With the mild winter I have gone up three times to process floor and roof planks with my Granberg Alaskan Mill. Last week temps were +20 to +45 with 8 inches of snow on the ground. The third session...

What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

Have had a Wenonah boats. Still have my Prism after 30 years. Picked up an Encounter a few years ago. Latest and not used yet is the 20 pound 12.5 foot ADK. This because it can slip inside an Otter floatplane. I keep a Pakcanoe 165 for the same reason. Only two canoes on the outside of an Otter...

What Do You Do In Winter ?

With a river bottoms cabin 8 miles from my house and a very remote old log cabin 600 miles away at the top.of MN I have plenty of spots to escape to over the winter. Here in northern IL we have too many deer and an unending supply of various deer tags with seasons til mid-Jan. so another...
