    Hello from Central Florida

Never been on the Withlacoochee, however Ive stayed at Buffalo Tram, Its a great float from Kings Landing to Buffalo, then the float from camp to Katies is one of our favorites. I hate to carry all the fire wood but thats the rules and just a part of it.

    Hello from Central Florida

I will do that, it was wanting to do it in spring but another trip came up on the Suwannee so i am trying to find the time to get On the Peace. That river is one that my dad used to go on as a kid, and makes me want to see it. Dad wont be going, but he can enjoy the pictures.

Thanks again to the replies. And yes the boat weighs about 65/70 lbs. I would love to get a lighter/better boat but the budget just wont allow that at the moment so it is what i have. We are planning another trip on the Suwannee River that i will run into 1 portage that i am hoping is a short...

    Yokes & Thwarts

thanks for all the replies. This has helped, im going to think about it more in depth. To be honest we portage very few times, and like yellowcanoe said the boat is a beast. I think i will look into a cart system, and then go with thwarts to fix the one that is bent. I will look into Essex and...

I am looking at adding thwarts and a yoke ( or more ). Being that i am new to canoeing and all that is truly needed on a canoe to make it a better ride. I have a few basic questions that i am hoping yall can help me with. I have a 16 foot Indian River fiberglass canoe, I always paddle tandem...

    Hello from the Orlando area

Im sure you can just show up there, there are " camp host " at the river camps, but when we went most the camps were hostless. During the weekday we were really the only ones at the sites. Im guessing that if the shelters arent full they are "fair game". If they are full then you can pitch a tent.

    Hello from the Orlando area

Oh yeah the fire ant, well we didnt have problems with them at the river camps, but they were horrible at the state parks.

    Hello from the Orlando area

The river camps are free with a reservation and there are 5 shelters at each river camps, there is also primitive camping at the river camps. The next trip we take ( trying for Feb ) will be sandbar camping and its a first come basis. However sandbars are hard to find after Suwannee River State...
