So the Wanigan is finished... Close enough anyway(We are leaving tomorrow am for a 3 days moose hunt so needed to be done). I finished it with 2 coats of cherry gel stain, and 4 coats of spar varnish( the tray and the inside have only one coat of thinned varnish.

I can fit all our kit and more so I'm happy and it still under 50 pounds loaded!!

I still have to make a tumpline to carry it but that will come later, for now it will be only hand carry from canoe to the camp site!!

I will make an other one the same but no tray as a food box!

We always make comments about the difference in our dollars and yours... in all possible ways up here! we are so close to the USA( i.5hrs to Skagway Ak) The speed people are driving, weight, money of course, gaz etc etc.

Ya we made sure we filled up just before we went into Canada, left with the gas warning light on.

Looks nice and heavy duty Canotrouge. 47lbs is nothing for you hardy folks up in The Yukon. Hope we'll get to see pics of your canoeing Moose hunt.

Only 47 pounds Canadian? You don't eat enough.
Nice looking wanigan Canot. You don't even need a tump with the river trips you run. You and a partner on each handle can move this no problem! I like the signature in photo#1, nice touch!

What you mean me and a partner.... I move that all by my self:eek:. Really, 50 lbs full is actually easily manageable. We don't travel light, I don't believe in light gear in term of durability. But this is not the point!!

How did you join those corners? Looks like 1/4" ply, and I'm not understanding what I see... do you have any more details/build pics? Love it!

Seeker, it is indeed 1/4 baltic birch ply, each corners are glued edge to face( if that make sense) same with he bottom to the sides. after that I did an epoxy filet of thickened west system epoxy to reinforced each corners and where the bottom meet with the sides. The bottom is recess into the sides and then there is a light cedar frame that is glued to the bottom and the sides on the outside of the box.
