For those interested in taking a satellite messenger with them on their trips (and for those of you who aren't, we know, so please DON'T bother telling us yet again), Spot may have just upped their game significantly.

The biggest drawback of Spot X as compared to an Inreach or some of the other devices (other than Globalstar versus Irridium), in my opinion, has been the lack of any mapping functions and the inability to get weather reports on Spot.

That may have changed. According to their website, Spot has launched a new mapping feature/service that includes a vastly improved live mapping app (presumably must be linked via bluetooth to your phone) that at least at the premium level ($2.95/month) includes weather overlays. https://www.findmespot.com/en-us/mapping#use-cases The website really is wanting in details so here is a description from one of the press releases:
SPOT Mapping makes it easier than ever for SPOT owners to plan and track their trips, with dynamic intelligence about local conditions, and allows them to share their journey details with friends, family and colleagues. Users can now view maps with satellite, road and terrain options with far more detail than previously available. The new mapping platform is viewable on any mobile device, and users can either view maps in Live mode for real-time tracking or in History mode to review previous trips.

The entry-level SPOT Basic Mapping service is included in the SPOT Basic service plan. It enables users to post their waypoints; set an alert for check-in or custom messages; share maps with up to three additional people, store up to 10 contacts, and store up to three years of position history.

Premium Mapping pricing starts at 24 Euros (£20) including VAT annually and features weather mapping layers, geofencing and two-way messaging to/from SPOT X, the latest addition to the SPOT family, launched in 2019. The premium service also allows users to share maps with up to 10 people, store up to 25 contacts, and hold up to five years of position history.

Are there any Spot X owners out their who can confirm that this new service allows you to get weather maps for your location if you can get a satellite signal?
