Not sure if this is a cold crack or the result of outdoor storage with rotted off gunnels. The new gunnels and G-Flex make for a solid repair. Not pretty but solid imo.

Looking good Robin... Was the crack starting right where the original screw was?

Yes, the crack runs right thru a screw hole.

The canoe sat on horses under a tarp for years due to the previous owners failing health. When he pulled the tarp off the canoe the day I picked it up he noticed the crack. He said he didn't know how it got there and was surprised to see it. At that point some of the gunnels had rotted off and the piece where the crack was was missing. He said it could have been tagged by a snow plow but at that point he was just guessing.
There is a small crease at the bottom where the crack is just a surface crack. You can see it in the interior picture.

Looks like a cold crack to me.. differential contraction rates of RX and wood. It really matters not what the cause. Its fixed. It just needs to be in a warm climate or to have someone attentive enough to loosen screws before winter.

I got a Dagger Caption that had 9 of them when I bought it... It si my go to boat these days when paddling tandem... On some exciting stuff!! I fixed a lot of cold cracks up here, lots. Some time a boat doesn't crack for 20 years and then one spring you pull it out for a paddle and bam, you get a little surprise!!

Mine didn't crack again!
